The site is run by a current VVSD resident, which helps keep its perspective practical and rooted in everyday experience. It offers space for residents to describe these services as they encountered them, giving a clearer view of how different programs actually function. VeteranNotes.org isn’t connected to any government agency, nonprofit, or service provider. General information about VVSD programs is included only to give context for individual accounts, keeping all descriptions grounded in direct experience.

- INTERNET ACCESS | VeteranNotes
Internet Service at Veterans Village of San Diego Veterans Village provides a shared Wi‑Fi network for resident use across living areas and common spaces. The connection supports basic online activity, though speeds vary throughout the day. Because all residents rely on the same network, performance often slows during high‑traffic periods, especially for tasks that require stable bandwidth such as video calls, online classes, or job‑training platforms. The network is generally adequate for email, messaging, and light browsing. Upload speeds can be limited, affecting document submissions and telehealth appointments. Signal strength also differs by building depending on access‑point placement. Some online content is filtered by the Village’s network. This includes certain YouTube channels and categories of media that the system restricts by default. As a result, residents may find that specific videos or channels do not load even when the rest of the platform is accessible. Reliable internet access is increasingly important for employment searches, education, VA services, and communication with family. VeteranNotes.org documents resident experiences with connectivity to help track conditions, identify recurring issues, and support constructive dialogue about improving digital access at the Village

Veterans Village of San Diego (VVSD) Overview of Safety Findings at VVSD This document reflects observations from the author, a current resident, and summarizes publicly available information about safety‑related conditions at Veterans Village of San Diego. It also includes context drawn from public reports and news coverage that is not present on the official Veterans Village website https://vvsd.net. Public records and federal oversight reports show that for several years, Veterans Village of San Diego (VVSD) struggled with major safety issues. Both staff and residents frequently raised red flags about an unsafe environment and persistent drug activity on campus. In 2022, management practices faced heavy criticism when an employee was fired the very day a local news outlet published their report detailing these hazardous conditions. The VA Office of Inspector General later documented multiple resident overdose deaths, including five in 2022 and more in 2023 and 2024. These tragedies, paired with severe staffing shortages and operational breakdowns, brought intense regulatory pressure. Ultimately, state authorities stepped in and revoked VVSD’s residential substance-use treatment license. Following the shutdown of on-site addiction treatment at VVSD, the City of San Diego and the San Diego Housing Commission partnered with Father Joe’s Villages to repurpose the facilities. Father Joe’s Villages stepped in to run 130 of these new beds to make up for other shelter closures in the city. Meanwhile, VVSD managed the rest of the beds for veterans. To ensure resident safety under this new shared management, an independent compliance team and a senior official were stationed directly on-site. Today, the situation shows real signs of a turnaround under this strict oversight. Regionally, data shows ongoing progress in lowering veteran homelessness, an effort VVSD continues to support through its expanded housing and case-management teams. On campus, local volunteer groups have also rolled up their sleeves to complete critical structural repairs and accessibility upgrades.
